Dagartech secures power supply for the new iBet Biofarma research unit in Portugal

iBET is a private, non-profit institution founded in 1989 specialising in research in Biotechnology and Life Sciences. Its main mission is to bring together academic research and industry through collaborations in areas such as biopharmaceuticals and food.

The organisation offers a wide range of services including solutions for Biopharmaceuticals and Advanced Therapy Medical Products (ATMPs), as well as Food, Nutraceuticals and Bioactive Ingredients. It has state-of-the-art laboratories, a GMP-certified unit for analytical services and a pilot plant for protein and virus production and bioprocess development, among others. In addition, iBET works closely with other institutions and companies both nationally and internationally.

With this extension project, which has involved an investment of €25 million, the Institute of Biological Technology (iBET) has modernised its R&D infrastructures with new spaces and 30 laboratories. These unique facilities will enable this leading research centre to develop biopharmaceuticals and vaccines, among others.

Dagartech has successfully completed the installation of three 550 kVA synchronous generator sets to ensure the power supply of the new iBET BIOFARMA research unit in Oeiras, Portugal.

The needs of the client

This project required guaranteeing the electricity supply for the 30 laboratories and the remaining iBET Biofarma facilities, a 6,700 m2 unit

  • The institute needed to guarantee an uninterruptible power supply, which the Technical Management of the project sized at 1,500 kVA of power in emergencies.
  • Flexible and comprehensive event monitoring was also needed, as well as comprehensive display of engine-related information, thus facilitating maintenance or repair work on the machine.

  • ENGINE BLOCK - ALTERNATOR
    • Volvo engine (TAD1641GE).
      Engine warm-up system to ensure quick start-up of the equipment, even at low temperatures.
    • Stamford Alternator (HCI544D) with PMG + MX341.
  • CONTROL PANELCONTROL PANEL
    • Deep Sea Electronics Control Module – DSE 8610 MKII (Automatic Start-up Synchronisation and Load Sharing Control Module).
  • OTHER EQUIPMENT
    • High attenuation exhaust silencer (-35 dB(A)).
    • Electro-welded cab made of high resistance galvanized steel painted with electrostatic epoxy-polyester powder paint.
    • With interior soundproofing by means of a lining with soundproofing material.
    • Reduced capacity fuel tank. This tank reduction is done to comply with fire regulations.
    • Mother tank with a capacity of 5,000 litres.
    • Automatic filling system with 3 electric pumps.
    • Special shock absorbers.
