STELLAR ENERGY IN ACTION
Leroy Merlin, one of the leading DIY and building materials chains, is launching a new logistics platform in Castanheira do Ribatejo, less than 40 kilometers from Lisbon. This new platform, covering 105,500 square meters, will be operational from November 2024 and will centralize distribution across Portugal, becoming a strategic hub thanks to its prime location.
This project aligns with sustainability principles set by ESG standards, which qualify it for LEED Gold certification.
The platform will optimize Leroy Merlin’s logistics operations and serve as an example of energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, requiring a robust and efficient energy solution to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply.

To ensure the operational continuity of this key logistics centre, the following technical requirements were set:
Dagartech’s technical management team evaluated the project’s needs, considering both the expected energy consumption and possible scenarios of network failure. It proposed the installation of high-power generators designed to operate in synchronisation during mains failure, ensuring an automatic and uninterrupted transition.
The implementation of an advanced monitoring and communication system was suggested to guarantee efficient equipment management and a swift response in case of incidents.
Dagartech custom-designed and manufactured the following:
Two 1250 kVA generator sets powered by Cummins engines and Stamford alternators, designed to operate in synchronisation during mains failure. They are equipped with a DSE 8610 MKII (MINT Auto Start) communication module, allowing for precise and automatic control. The generators feature a permanent magnet in the alternator to ensure voltage stability. These two generators cover the power demand of the logistics centre.
Transfer System: An automatic transfer switch system. The generators automatically respond to a mains failure, synchronise their operation, and send a validation signal to the transfer switchboard. Once the power supply is restored, the generators reverse the process.
A 220 kVA generator for emergency use, powered by an FPT Iveco engine and Stamford alternator, also designed to operate in the event of mains failure. This generator ensures the continuity of the facility’s security systems.
This installation guarantees a reliable and efficient power supply for Leroy Merlin’s National Distribution Logistics Centre, ensuring uninterrupted operations under any circumstances.
